Dog Doula

Dog DoulaAre you pregnant? Excited by the time ahead but concerned about your dog's reaction? Don't worry, Caroline is here for you.

She is a mum herself and had 3 large dogs when baby Ethan arrived. She knows having a baby is one of the most wonderful experience in life, but it is also tiring, emotional, not to mention disorganising at first. Through her own experience as a dog owner, a trainer and a mum, she helps mums-to-be enjoy their dog rather than worry. Having a dog should make this unique and wonderful time even more special, and think of the joy of seeing your child grow up with a loving canine companion.

Our dog doula service includes pre and post natal visits. These visits are tailored to your requirements, but we will typically cover the following aspects of living with a dog through pregnancy and then with a newborn baby:

  • How to stop unwanted behaviour before baby arrives.
  • How to exercise and stimulate your dog in late pregnancy when you may be feeling tired and become less mobile.
  • Introducing your baby to your dog.
  • Keeping your baby safe without making your dog feel insecure.
  • Finding time for your dog while adjusting to life as a mum.
  • Walking your dog with your baby.

Caroline comes and visits you at your home so she can understand your dog's everyday environment and help you establish a new routine if necessary.

Recommendations for parents-to-be:

No book will ever replaced having your dog assessed by an experienced specialist and/or receiving professional advice tailored to your situation. But if you are expecting, you may find that the excellent book "your baby and your dog" makes interesting reading. And if you are looking for a birth doula, we can recommend our good friend Belinda Neal from Doula Baby who was by our side when our son Ethan was born. She was a wonderful support and with her, you do not need to worry about putting your dog/s away during the antenatal visits as she is very canine friendly, being a dog owner herself. Our dogs have enjoyed her visits as much as we have.
